Sticks and Bands

This is an oldie but a goodie. The kids literally just put rubber bands around sticks. One of my favorite things about this activity is how easy it is to travel with. I actually keep this activity in my "restaurant bag". And depending on how well your child knows their numbers, this can be considered a "Sit Beside Me" activity as well.

Materials

  • craft sticks (get some here on Amazon*)

  • small rubber bands ( get some here on Amazon*)

  • marker

  • play doh ( I like the mini tubs for this activity. Here on Amazon*)

Instructions

  1. Write the numbers 1-15 (or whatever numbers you want to practice) on the craft sticks.

  2. Put the numbered sticks in play doh standing upright.

  3. Have your child look at the number on the stick and thread that many rubber bands around the sticks.

Why I like it

  • Practices fine motor skills

  • Practices counting

  • Number recognition

  • Few materials

  • Great to-go activity
