Hang That Pattern

Taylor

Anyone else have a MILLION of these plastic ball pit balls laying around? Use them to create a fun pattern game!

Materials

  • Plastic balls in different colors (get some here on Amazon)

  • Tape (get some here on Amazon)

  • Stools or two surfaces you can put the tape between

  • Notecards (get some here on Amazon)

  • Dot Markers (get some here on Amazon)

Instructions

  1. Make the pattern notecards. I used dot markers to make the patterns on the notecards but you could use dot stickers, or markers to make colored circles.

  2. Find a surface where you can hang your tape so that the sticky side is available to hang your pattern. Today we used the legs of two stools upside down. You could use the legs of an upside down table, hang the tape between two chairs or even use double sided tape under a table.

  3. Give them the plastic balls and ask them to stick the balls to the tape using the patterns that were made on the card.

Depending on skill level there are a couple of ways to approach this.

  • Match the card in the order you see it.

  • Match the card in the order you see it AND continue the pattern

  • Challenge your kids to make their own pattern cards for a you or sibling to build.

What I like about it

  • Its another use for those dang ball pit balls that get thrown all over the house :)

  • Kids love tape. A mundane activity can become super engaging with some tape! Instead of placing the pattern on a table like many activities and worksheets they are suspending it. How fun is that?

  • You can use any object that is light enough to stick to the tape! Like poms, buttons, bottle tops, etc

Tag #HbeforeG on your socials with the hanging pattern game you do! I'd love to see it!

Stay sane mommas! We got this!
