Wooden Slide Puzzle

I love any activity that comes with task cards. In this Montessori STEM puzzle, the child looks at the task card and slides the pieces around to make their board match the card. It comes with a sand timer to make it in to a game. There are two sides, one side with shapes and the other with colors. This is challenging and fun!

  • The pieces freely move in the board, but are secure. and wont fall out.

  • The box is sturdy and closes nicely containing the pieces

  • Great for logic and strategy!

  • The sand timer is a little fast for my 4 year old. Maybe offer another type of timer.

  • My 2 year old enjoyed sliding the pieces around but did not understand the concept of matching the cards.

  • I recommended 4 years and up but some even younger may enjoy using this toy.

Mental Blox

Any type of guided building activity is great for Sit Beside Me. The child looks at different cards and builds what they see. Even though the box states it is for ages 5+ the cards vary in difficulty so I recommend starting as early as age 2.

Make a Face

Melissa and Doug make these great sticker pads where you make a face choosing from different stickers of facial features and accessories. If you want this to be a true independent activity I recommend for age 4+. Otherwise your little one will probably ask you to help peel off each sticker. However,  these are great to have on hand for younger ages with parent involvement.

  • The set I have linked doesn't come with much sand. I would buy additional pack of sand.

  • Kinetic sand set (linked)
