Domino Match Run

Updated: Apr 9, 2020

RUN! Match the total dots on the dominos to their sum posted.

Materials

  • Dominos (Amazon) Or you can make your own out of notecards

  • Paper

  • Tape (Amazon)

Instructions

  1. Write the numbers 0-12 on separate pieces of paper

  2. Tape them to the wall or ground

  3. Put a pile of dominos far, far, far away from the numbers taped. (more distance to run- gotta wear these kids out!)

  4. Tell your child to run as fast as they can grabbing one domino at a time from their pile, counting or adding the dots, and then placing them by the piece of paper with the answer.

Additional ideas

  • Make it a game with siblings. Divide up the dominos into piles. Whoever finishes their pile first wins.

  • Make it a scavenger hunt. Instead of piles, hide the dominoes all over the house or yard and have them race to finish.

  • Put on music while they play. See if they can finish their task before the playlist stops.

Why I like it

  • Low prep

  • Few, basic materials

  • Learning disguised as a game

  • Can work for multiple ages. Give the easier dominos to the younger learner

  • Dominoes are a great visual to show how different numbers can add up to the same sum.
